Putting it all out there

Downpour -30" x 30" - Oil on Panel

Today I finally sucked it up, and got over my fear of approaching galleries with my work. As my own worst critic (and shy and awkward) I've been putting it off for a while. I am happy with the feedback I've gotten so far. So, now it's time to wait with all my fingers and toes crossed.

I am so grateful to have had the means to paint full-time for the last few months. I've allowed myself some time off from a day job to concentrate on creating work and, I must say, I have never been so productive. And I now I feel really inspired to make this work. It's hard, but worth it.

The Suburbs - Oil and Latex on Panel - 16" x 40"

I must say I am getting excited to leave the big city. As much as I love the city and all there is to do, I am looking forward to a simple life in a small town.

Tea time in the sunny studio

And away we go...

Hola! This is my art blog. Welcome! I guess I should have started one awhile ago, but I didn't so I'll start now. While visiting with my lovely friend Jackie of chubbybroccoil, I decided it was time to jump on this bandwagon and start writing about my art. Jackie was talking about how she likes to follow blogs by her favorite artists because it is like having a glimpse into their studio, creation and creative process. Like getting to know the artist in addition to their work. Neat. I like that.

I am currently in a lovely little studio space in Calgary called the Seafood Market Studios. I set up shop here in October and have been immensely productive since then. It's amazing how a co
mfortable space to work in can really amp up the motivation and creativity. It's been a great little community of artsy people to get to know, especially over a game of ping pong.

My time in Calgary is quickly coming to an end though. The studio lease is almost up, my job is closing its doors, and my landlord sold the house. I am taking that as a sign that it is time to move on. I'm really going to miss this studio, but I am excited for things to come! I've got 4 shows lined up in the next few months, as well as a few commissions and new work to create for the Bluerock Gallery in Black Diamond, AB.

So, here we go.
